It is with great sadness that Donna’s family announce her passing on Sunday, October 22nd, 2006 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre . Her family was by her side.
Donna was predeceased by her parents, Jean and Roy English and by her husband, Walter Brown in 2002. She is survived by her son, Lee and daughter-in-law JoAnn, grandson, Michael Brown of Longlac, Ontario and granddaughter, Tiffany Brown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, daughter, Lynn Brown MacGowan and son-in-law, Bill MacGowan of Toronto, sister, Joan Inglis and brother-in-law, Tom Inglis, niece, Cathy Jessiman and her children, Shannon, Kyle and Leanne, nephew, David Inglis and his wife, Joanie and their boys, Bryson and Connor. Also surviving are her brother-in-law Richard Brown and sister-in-law Gladys of Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario and their three sons, Bill, Jim and Murray. Aunt Jean English and several cousins in and near Winnipeg, Manitoba will also sense the loss of such a dear person.
Donna was born in Port Arthur, Ontario in 1928 and attended St. James Public School, graduating from Port Arthur Collegiate Institute and then attending Northwest Institute of Medical Technology, Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated as a Laboratory Technician. She is a member of Trinity United Church where she taught Sunday School as a young person and in more recent years, she was commentator for the very popular Dessert of the Month fashion show held at Trinity. She was a long-standing member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a great hostess and enjoyed entertaining and being entertained by her many friends and family who will miss her so very much. Donna enjoyed her bridge clubs and played her last game just the week before her passing. She was a member of the Port Arthur Golf and Country Club where she curled, winning many events and she also enjoyed golfing in her earlier years. She and "Watt" owned and operated Walter Brown Jewellers for many years working together congenially. After retirement she volunteered for several years in the gift shop at the Port Arthur General Hospital.
Donna enjoyed many years at their cottage at Loon Lake.
Cremation has taken place as per her wishes and a reception to celebrate her life will be held at the reception hall at the Sargent Family Reception Centre, 23 North Court Street (next to the Funeral Home) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25th, 2006. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetary following the reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre or a charity of your choice.
