ASLUND- Mrs. Anna Erika Aslund age 96 years, a resident of Pioneer Ridge and formerly of North Algoma Street passed away at her residence on Sunday, February 18, 2007. Born in Finland, Anna came to Canada and Port Arthur in 1928. In 1943, she married Andrew Aslund originally from Sweden. Anna and her husband built a home on North Algoma Street in 1949 where she resided well into her nineties. She was employed by various hotels and laterly at the Shoreline Hotel for 16 years retiring in 1975. Anna lived a life of simple values, hard work and love for her family. She was also a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Anna was predeceased by her husband Andrew in 1976. She is survived by her sister Gerda Gran of Finland, her son Eric Aslund and his wife, Peggy, of Vancouver, BC, her daughter Mary Ann Zinkan and her husband, Charlie, of Nelson, BC, two grandchildren, Kristen and Tate, and two great grandchildren,Terris and Chase. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 11:00 am in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street with Pastor Matthew Diegel of Immanuel Lutheran Church presiding. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. in the Sargent Chapel.
