BARTLEY
Mrs Janet Bartley, age 90 years, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre on Thursday, March 8, 2007. She was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on May 3, 1916.
Janet is survived by her children, Susan Norquay (Geoff) of Ottawa, Bill of Thunder Bay and Tom ( Lorri) of Calgary; her grandchildren, Matthew Norquay, Andrea Norquay and Laura Bartley and brother, Bill Cox of Halifax. She was preceded by her husband, Mel and her parents Earl and Beatrice Cox.
Janet graduated from Acadia University (BA) and the University of Toronto (MA) and Library Studies (BLS). She was employed as a Librarian at the University of Toronto until moving to Atikokan with her husband in 1940. She fondly remembered her days living on the shores of Steep Rock Lake before it was drained to establish Steep Rock Iron Mines. She moved to Port Arthur in 1947 when her husband Mel became the founding Principal of Lakehead Technical Institute (today Lakehead University). After her children were old enough she returned to work at the Port Arthur Public Library on their professional staff.
She loved her life in Thunder Bay and at camp at Loon Lake where the whole family gathered every summer. She was an ardent bridge player and her bridge buddies were some of her closest friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at St John's Anglican Church; 226 Pearl Street; Thunder Bay, Ontario at 11 am. . Reception to follow in Langworthy Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Alzheimers Society or the charity of your choice may be made in her memory.
