BEASLEY- Mrs. Edith Mary Beasley, age 81 years, passed away at her residence on Sunday, July 22, 2001. The daughter of Fred and Nell Phelps, Mary was born in Sebastapol, Wales on January 23, 1920. She came to Canada in 1925, spending her early years in Cobalt and South Porcupine, Ontario. While there she graduated from North Bay Normal School and later taught in South Porcupine. She moved to Port Arthur just prior to her marriage to Arthur Beasley in 1944. Mary was an active member of St. Paul's United Church, having taught Sunday School and been a longtime member of the UCW. She loved her family, her Lord and His Church. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her sons Tom (Vicki) and their children Alexander and Frederick of Vancouver and Bob (Wendy) and their children Colin, Paul and Mark of Chatham, Ontario. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's United Church, Waverley Street, with Rev. Lloyd Ivany officiating. Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for friends will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Paul's United Church Memorial Fund or the Canadian Bible Society would be appreciated. "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
