Luigi Bruzzese

Birthplace: Mammola, Italy

BRUZZESE- It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our father Luigi Bruzzese at his home on Saturday, October 13, 2007. Luigi was born in Mammola, Reggio Calabria, Italy on June 11, 1920 and came to Canada as a young man. He was employed as a Carman with the C.N.R. for 44 years until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed working in the garden and playing cards with family and friends. He was a member of the Italian Cultural Centre, Corpus Christi Church, the Knights of Columbus Leo Council #1130, and the C.N.R. Pensioners Association. Luigi's family was first and foremost in his life and he was happiest when spending time with them. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his sons: Jim (Barb) Bruzzese and their children Michael and Michelle of Richmond, B.C., John Bruzzese and Mark (Bev) Bruzzese and their children Julia and Samantha; daughter Debbie (Bill) Maki, their children Chris and Carolyn (Jim) McTighe and great grandchildren William, Olivia and Benjamin of Kamloops, B.C., daughter Rosalie (Guy) Archambault and their children Danielle and Marc-Andre of Montreal, P.Q.; sisters Guiseppina Furfaro and Nancy (Roger) Morin; sisters-in-law Mary Bruzzese and Hazel Oikle as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Ruby, parents Vincenzo and Mariacarmela Bruzzese, granddaughter Jessica Maki, brother Sam Bruzzese, brothers-in-law: Frank Furfaro, Truman Petch, Bob Petch, Charles Petch, Frank Maxtead, Jack Bright and Ed Bright; sisters-in-law Joan Deveau and Kay Tully. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 18th leaving the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street at 9:45 a.m. for the Funeral Mass at Corpus Christi R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk. Interment to follow in St. Andrew's R.C. Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held on Wednesday, October 17th from 6-8 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Chapel with the Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
