AGAR- Mr. H. John Agar, age 65 years, passed away peacefully with his family at his side in St. Joseph's Hospital on Saturday morning, March 8, 2008. John was born in Kenora, Ontario on January 31, 1943 to Elswood and Margaret Agar. He grew up in Fort Frances before coming to Fort William in 1966. He worked for the City of Fort William as a Property Assessor before taking a position in the same field with the Province of Ontario where he stayed until his retirement after 31 years of service in 1999. In 1970 he started Robyn Landscaping which became his true passion and purpose, providing employment for many young people in Thunder Bay over the years. John became an avid runner in his 30s, joining the Thunder Bay Striders, completing two marathons and many other runs in Northwestern Ontario and the United States. For years he served as a volunteer at the Sibley Ski Tour, the Heart of Thunder Bay run and the 10 Mile Road Race. He also enjoyed the time he and Jayne spent wintering in Ft. Myers, Florida and the Bahamas. His greatest joy came during his visits to Milwaukee to see his grandson Jack. He is lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 40 years Jayne, daughter Robyn (Chip) Slater and grandson Jack, mother Margaret Agar, brother Doug (Wendy) Agar, mother-in-law Marie Suttie, brothers-in-law Tommy (Celina) Suttie and Ronnie (Susan) Suttie, sisters-in-law Carol (Dave) Farrow and Heather (Gerry) Belanger as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Elswood Agar and his brother-in-law, Richard Suttie. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. in St. John's Anglican Church, 226 Pearl Street, with the Ven. Mark S. Conliffe presiding. The services will be complete in the church with a reception to follow at the Valhalla Inn. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
