ADDERLEY- Mr. Harry Edward Adderley age 96 years a resident of Pioneer Ridge Home for the Aged passed away at his residence on Tuesday, June 16, 2009.
Harry was born in Winnipeg, MB on September 7, 1912. At an early age he joined the T. Eaton Company of Canada Ltd. in Winnipeg and transferred to the new Port Arthur store. During W.W. II Harry served overseas with R.C.E.M.E. On his return he completed 48 years of service with the company! He was well known throughout Thunder Bay for his service in draperies, furniture and floor coverings.
As a long-time member of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church he served in many capacities-warden, church management committee and Sunday school. In addition, he and his wife Cora found time to participate in the parent teacher association and in the mid-1950s, to be sponsors and chaperones for the West End Teentown.
After retiring, he drove for meals-on-wheels and the cancer clinic and became an avid gardener, golfer, and curler before taking up residence at Pioneer Ridge Home for the Aged. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 5.
He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Douglas E. (Valerie) of Victoria, B.C. and Bruce W. (Georgina) of Thunder Bay, grandchildren: Darren E. of Toronto, Tricia (Darcy) Tringham of Victoria, Roberta and Sean of Thunder Bay, and four great grandchildren: Alyssa of Thunder Bay and Cleopatra, Rebecca and Athena all of Victoria, nephew John (Joleen) of Kelowna and numerous nieces and nephews on the McMullan side of the family in Ireland, Canada and the USA.
Harry was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Cora (nee McMullan), parents Alfred E. and Edith (nee Eastly) Adderley, sisters: Dorothy (Robert) Aikman, Muriel (George) Ewens and his twin sister Mary Adderley.
A special thanks to the doctors of the P.A. Clinic who managed his health, especially Dr. C. Allison, to his care-givers at Pioneer Ridge and in the hospital and to Rev. Peter Smyth of St. Michael's for his caring support through Harry's toughest years and hours. We will miss you Dad. God bless you and keep you.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 11:00 am in St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church (Red River Rd) at Rockwood Ave) with Rev. Peter Smyth presiding. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 5. will hold their service of tribute in conjunction with the funeral service.
