| KIVINEN- Mrs. Ines Elviira Kivinen, age 96 years, of Pioneer Ridge Home For the Aged and formerly of Masters Street, passed away peacefully at the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Friday, July 23, 2010 following a short illness. Ines was born in Kivikoski, Ontario on February 25, 1914 and in her younger years worked at the Pigeon River Hotel. In 1933 she married Veikko Kivinen and they settled in Lappe, Ontario where they farmed. In 1954 the family moved to Port Arthur but still spent many summers (till 1967) at the family's woodlots in Ware Township near Trout Lake. These summers were some of Ines' fondest memories. Ines then worked as a homemaker, retiring in 1979. During her retirement she enjoyed the company of her many friends and was on the go almost constantly in town with an occasional trip to Grand Portage until mobility issues due to advancing age forced her to slow down. She always had a friendly and compassionate disposition and a smile towards everyone she encountered. She was a genuine people person. Ines is survived by her son Glenn of Thunder Bay and brother Reino (Sherrell) Peuhkuri of Thunder Bay as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Canada, the U.S.A. and Finland. She was predeceased by her father Oscar Matson (prior to her birth), mother Wilhelmina Peuhkuri, step-father Joseph Peuhkuri, brothers Leo and Toivo Peuhkuri, and Walter Matson and sisters Lempi Heinamaki, Laila Ylimaki, Lillian Lehtinen and Hilpa Vesa. Funeral services for the late Ines Kivinen will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Keith Blom presiding. Interment of ashes will take place in Riverside Cemetery following a reception in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
